Prospective postdoc students can reach out directly to individual faculty members. The complete list of available postdoc positions at Pitt can be found here.

Prospective graduate students can find information about applying below. Students have the freedom to do research in any department, but they are encouraged to apply to the home department of a particular faculty member with whom they are interested in working.

Physics and Astronomy (How to apply) The Department of Physics and Astronomy has a long and distinguished history of innovative research and outstanding teaching, from its founding in 1867 and the work of its first chair Samuel Pierpont Langley to internationally recognized research efforts in a wide range of topics by the current faculty.

Chemistry  (How to apply)  The Department of Chemistry provides outstanding resources for research and career development, coupled with the University of Pittsburgh's commitment to being one of the world's leading academic institutions, will enable you to achieve your educational and professional objectives.

Electrical and Computer Engineering (How to apply) Since its founding in 1893 by two legends, George Westinghouse and Reginald Fessenden, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Pitt has excelled in education, research, and service. Today, the department features innovative undergraduate and graduate programs and world-class research centers and labs, combining theory with practice at the nexus of computer and electrical engineering, for our students to learn, develop, and lead lives of impact.

Department of Informatics and Networked Systems  (How to apply) We innovate in education and research at the junction of information, networks, and human behavior towards discovering and modeling of new social and technical phenomena. Our academic and research programs explore the connections between people, information, and networks/systems. Discover how this confluence addresses the societal, technological, and organizational challenges we face today.

Department of Computer Science (How to ApplyWe offer degrees in Computer Science and Data Science. Our faculty innovate in the theory and implementation of quantum algorithms and the tooling and system software needed to support future quantum systems.  Our academic and research programs explore these areas and collaborate with our colleagues and industry to design and build real-world quantum tools.

Prospective undergraduate students can participate in a Physics and Quantum Computing degree program as a Computer Science student or a Physics student. The Physics and Quantum Computing Bachelor of Science degree will train students in the efforts to build quantum machines, as well as the growing industrial efforts in quantum information.  This program is designed to prepare for students in the fields of Quantum Information (QI) and Quantum Computing (QC).  The major consists of a core program of physics, computer science and QI/QC courses, with optional focuses to prepare for graduate studies in Physics or Computer Science. There is also a certificate in quantum computing and quantum Information for interested students.
