About

Quantum Science and Engineering (QSE) has advanced rapidly in recent years, through controlling coherence and entanglement to achieve world-leading milestones in computation, communication, and sensing.  Governments worldwide are investing in research into the science we need to understand, and the engineering that we need to explore.  Commercial companies are starting to build teams to capitalize on these early breakthroughs.

At Pitt we explore fundamental science and engineering.  We seek to enable the coherent control and manipulation of quantum states of matter that promise transformative improvements in our ability to compute, communicate and sense.  Pitt has patented methods for connecting qubits, developed an electronically controlled ferromagnetic phase, and one of our students recently helped Intel with quantum chip production.

We are proud founding members of the Pittsburgh Quantum Institute (PQI). We collaborate with academic, government and industry researchers in the region and across the globe.  Faculty, staff, and students working in this area are encouraged to join PQI and become part of the community.

Branding and Logos

We have reserved the Pitt Quantum mark for materials related to Pitt Quantum research and educational programs.  The complete set of logos are available for use in slides and on materials related to quantum science and engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.
